Get a taste for two of the most popular flavor profiles that come out of the beautiful growing region of Guji Zone, Ethiopia. With one washed processed coffee presenting delicate and sweet floral notes and another natural processed coffee presenting bright fruited notes, you can experience the great complexities achieved through centuries of coffee-growing tradition. these two specific copies come from Morkata, a producer we’ve recently gotten in touch with through Brendan at newland imports. We hope to push this relationship even further by meeting Morkata in person in spring of 2026 and tentatively going to see his farm operation in the winter of 2026.

Morkata Gata • Natural-Processed Guji Heirloom
It’s a breath of fresh air to have an Ethiopian coffee back in our mix. In all transparency, we really have had a hard time the past few years honing in on an Ethiopian coffee we’ve genuinely loved. Most everything either quickly becomes out of our price range or just doesn’t shine on the cupping table in the ways we expect an Ethiopian coffee to. This lot from Morkata is different though. Very fairly priced for the cup quality, we were very impressed with the clarity and soft sweetness that this natural processed coffee has. We don’t pick up an intense acidity, more so a muted sweetness, which frankly I’ve been craving lately. A bit of rest really helps open this coffee up a bit. Highly recommend!

Morkata Gata • Washed-Processed Guji Heirloom
Vanilla • Rose • Melon
Morkata is the name of the month here in the shop, we’re loving these 2 new lots we’ve acquired from him and are excited to get to be promoting them. We cupped multiple coffees for this Q4 2025 set of launches for the website and loved how this one cupped. we were getting hints of straight up vanilla in the cup with a lot of movement in the profile as the coffee cooled. Nice sweetness and floral notes, but it didn’t completely lose the smooth nature of a washed coffee in having a mediumish mouthfeel. Overall, this coffee really hits that “washed Ethiopian” nail on the head.
