The longer we work in specialty coffee, the more we value our connection to the people who grow it. Knowing exactly where a coffee comes from, and who cultivated it, helps us share not just the quality of it, but the story behind every cup.

But every once in a while, an importer will reach out to us with a great coffee that we don’t know much about and we get to experience that, too! This is the case with July Jumbo.

July Jumbo is an Ecuadorian farmer whose farm is nestled in the picturesque canton of Sozoranga. A second-generation farmer, his farm began with a plot of Typica and that is the coffee we get to present to you!

Once the most widely grown coffee in the world, Typica is the variety that gave birth to all other coffee varieties. But because of its relatively low yield and high susceptibility to disease, it’s gradually fallen out of favor as more productive, more disease-resistant varieties have emerged.

Its flavor, however, is still a standout.

Clean and sweet with savory, nutty depth, Typica is the reason coffee caught on in the first place. This washed coffee is a delicious illustration of where it all began–and we’re thrilled to share it with you! Order a bag today and taste the variety that started it all.
