Grind Levels Explained

Proper coffee extraction is critical for achieving that perfect cup at home. Grind size is one of the few ways to be able to directly affect that extraction rate.

In addition to whole coffee beans, we currently offer 3 different coffee grind levels:

Coarse (Think sugar in the raw, maybe more coarse)
Recommended for

  • Chemex Brewer
  • French Press
  • Cold Brew

Medium (Slightly coarser than table salt)
Recommended for

  • Any flat bottom brewer
  • Kalitta wave
  • Cloth filters

Fine (Slightly finer than table salt)
Recommended for

  • V60 pour overs
  • Typical cone filter coffee pots
  • Aeropress

If you're interested in ground for Espresso, choose fine and mention something in the order comments.

If at all possible, we recommend grinding at home. We prefer Baratza coffee grinders and offer several of their models for sale. Click here to shop for one of their brewers.

In the Cup:

This classic Caturra washed process is an example of a traditional process done perfectly. It boasts a rich, smooth chocolate flavor complemented by the sweet and tangy citrus taste of mandarin oranges, and a mild astringency akin to grape juice. This classic process produces a smooth and delightful treat that any coffee lover is sure to enjoy.

Bella Luz

This farm is owned by Edwin Fidel Ortiz. When he was young his family was forced to leave his farm, when he was older he returned to his farm and worked to revitalize the farm to have a focus on quality. Edwin has his own washing station and dryer so that he can process immediately.

Nariño is Colombia's southernmost coffee-growing region, bordering Ecuador to the south and Cauca to its north. While each of Colombia's various coffee-growing regions has a distinct character in the cup, Nariño's unique climate conditions contribute to the special, sparkling quality of the coffees there. The dramatic slopes and valleys that comprise the landscape in this department have direct effect on the temperature modulation that creates these high-acidity, supersweet coffees: Warm, humid air collects in the lowlands during the day and creeps gently up the mountainsides at night, a combination that allows coffee to thrive at much higher altitudes than most of the rest of the country, as much as 2,300 meters above sea level.
